[JLH]JUSTIN LEE HODGES

Ember Orange

I hang from gallows in the evening orange
I've seen the meadow falling to the fire
Ember in the air, where will you next land your searing kiss
Pushed by the Mother's motive to cure and to curse
Where will you find another meal

Ember sailing in the moonlight
Do you know the valley sees you there
Holds its breath to hide
As it prays you will pass

You've instead found the rope around my neck
You've burned the holder of my fate
Your only light wasted on a small thing such as me
Wasted to set this lonely captive free
No better than a crooked pirate sailing on a crooked sea

What shall I now do with this gift given by a selfless ember
I hope, my best to share the warmth of its fire
My best to set a captive free
And keep my neck from out another noose
